Let me start by pointing out that I am the queen of cheap. Over $10? Too pricy! I get most of my makeup from the grocery store or the pharmacy. If it’s good enough for America’s Next Top Model (Cover Girl) or Project Runway (L’Oreal), it’s good enough for me!

But when it comes to lipstick….. I indulge. I spend. I am totally in love with lines like Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy.

The Lip Color (Shimmer) in Amaretto is so vital to my makeup drawer that when I ran out, I was lost without it. I actually went to the Laura Mercier counter at Belk’s and bought another one yesterday. By the way, it looks ENTIRELY different from that odd color on the website. It’s a lovely red/brown with bronze undertones.

Is it bad to spend $22 on lip gloss? I certainly feel really guilty about it. At least, until I put one of these on. Then I don’t feel guilty at all! The Ambre Rose Lip Gloss is a gorgeous red/brown/bronze color, similar to the Amaretto lipstick but in gloss format, and the two look perfect together. The Brownberry lip gloss color is also amazing! Um…. I bought them both. :)

All summer, I wore Trish McEvoy’s Glaze Lip Color in Iced Mocha almost every day! It’s pink in precisely the right way – not too pink (I hate too-pink lipstick!!) – and was perfect for all sorts of occasions.

Can you tell I like lip glazes and shimmers? I guess I need more matte!

I woke up this morning a little bit under the weather. And it’s all because of the seasons are changing. It’s still summer, but we’re not getting the typical summer weather here, humid 90 degree weather in Charlotte, North Carolina. No, we’re getting cool 60 degree weather, just at noon. And yesterday, I wore a tank and walked to work in 58 degree weather. Add a little wind to that, and it wasn’t a smart idea at all.

In thinking about transitional weather, I thought it would be nice to discuss some fashion  and body care options that should shield us from the sudden temperature drop and keep us looking fab!

In preparing for this weekend’s events, I’m picking out wine for a Wine Down on Sunday, an intimate gathering of girlfriends, and choosing cocktail recipes for my dinner with friends on Friday.  I thought I’d share them with you.

La Sera

La Sera- It’s an Italian wine that’s fizzy. Knock over the Moscato for my favorite dessert wine!

Astro Pop Cocktail

Ingredients
1/3 oz Amaretto
1/3 oz Rumple Minze
1/3 oz Grenadine
Directions Layer all three liqours into shot glass.
Serve in a Shot Glass

Lava Lamp Martini

Ingredients:

• 2 oz vodka or citrus vodka
• 1 oz raspberry liqueur
• 1 oz honey

Preparation:

1. Pour the vodka into a cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Shake well.
3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
4. Mix the honey and raspberry liqueur well in a shot glass.
5. Use a spoon to slowly drizzle the honey mixture into the vodka.
