With all the focus on boots and heels, it is easy to forget about flats. However, flats are often the most versatile shoes in your wardrobe, since you can wear them anywhere, dress them up or down, and pull them out in almost any temperature. Flats also afford a little more experimentation than other styles like a pump or boot. Try flats in geometric patterns and metallic shades that you could never get away with on any other type of shoe. Flats are also comfortable, and no matter how gorgeous your stiletto heels are, you will not be able to walk in them through that four hour sightseeing tour.

I especially like flats for summer. Invest in a pair of crisp silver sandals that will match everything in your wardrobe. For winter, flat boots are great. Pair them with skirts for an easy way to wear boots all day at work. Flat boots have inherent casualness since they provide that “look great without any effort” appearance.

Don’t forget to have fun with your flats. Buy a pair with a fun print or in a color that you would never wear on your nails. Whatever pattern or style you choose, flats are magical in that they always seem to work.
