The 70th anniversary of the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” is coming up in 2009, and what a better way to celebrate the event than recreating one of its most memorable icons — the ruby red slippers.

Shoe industry moguls Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and L.A.M.B. are each designing a pair of special edition ruby red pumps that are slated to be unveiled this September at Saks Fifth Avenue. Of course, everything is done with at least a dash of social responsibility nowadays, which is why the ruby red collection is being auctioned off to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

What a wonderful cause!
