March 9, 2009 marks Barbie’s 50th Anniversary and we couldn’t be more excited!

While our favorite doll isn’t looking any older these days, fashionistas, designers and girls-at-heart all over the world are celebrating the milestone.  February’s New York Fashion Week featured a 50 model, 50+ designer fashion show devoted solely to Barbie and her history.  The show included looks from Barbie’s first 1959 appearance (photos below) in the iconic black and white striped swimsuit through the years to looks from today.

They’ve even designed a special edition 50th Anniversary Barbie for the occassion. While I would have put her in pink (in classic Barbie style) this dress is stunning, just like Barbie has been for 50 years.

In honor of Barbie’s anniversary here are some shoes that we feel Barbie would wear, both today and 50 years ago:

As any Barbie owner knows, her feet are made for heels.  (She’s definitely my kind of girl!)  These 4 inch hott pink pumps are just what any Barbie needs.

Guess Carrie, $84.99 at Heels.com

Any Barbie wardrobe also must include a fabulous pair of heels for her beautiful ball gowns.  These coral satin peep-toes with the knot detail is perfect for any special night on the town with Ken.

Finally, any Barbie girl needs a pair of shoes for her swimsuit.  These summery sandals feature pink leather with sequins and a bow, could you get more Barbie than that?

It Was Love At First Sight…

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Which means that Cupid is lurking somewhere deep in the shadows! Distract him with a totally fierce pair of heels this February 14th. Everyone knows the traditional V-day colors are red and pink. Follow the rules and find a great selection of red and pink shoes; from heels to flats to sandals to wedges. Wear them on your V-day date, girlfriend trip the movies or that Valentine’s Day dance.

We are not saying you HAVE to follow our lead, but here are a few selections worth of lots of love this Valentine’s Day.

Ready to wow your date with a sassy and gorgeous pair of heels that will easily compliment your already gorgeous legs? Opt for the bright pink Carrie 3 by Guess?.

Why not wear the mascot flower for Valentine’s Day on your very own shoes?! A rose never looked so beautiful and classy as a part of the Sydney Heel by L.A.M.B.

Looking for a simple flat to hang out with the girls? Then try this on for size! Less inches, but still as beautiful, the Ceasar Wedge by Jessica Simpson makes a fun date all its own!

If you are lucky enough to spend the holiday somewhere warm and tropical, this
Paris Hilton Camila Wedge makes for a saucy companion as you walk hand in hand by the beach!

I saved the BEST for last. No matter what plans you have on Valentine’s Day, be sure to give these Betsey Johnson Abby Heels a once over. They are my favorite (mostly cause of the fun heart additions) in the V-day department and would work incredibly well whether you are spending the evening dancing the night away, having dinner by fireside or enjoying a few cocktails with the ladies.

It doesn’t really matter who you are with this Valentine’s Day, but what truly matters is what you wear. Be sure to find “love at first sight” with every shoe you choose; Valentine’s Day and every other day!

Buckle Up!

When it comes to footwear, it seems that everything stylish these days has a buckle on it. From wedges to 4 inch high heels, buckle closures going across the ankle or even at several parts across the foot are the way to go. Functional or not, the strapped- in aesthetic of the buckle provides an updated, sexy take on a pair of shoes. And we love them all — from oversized to delicate, rounded or square!

My top five buckle picks are:
