As far back as I can remember, when it came to formal events, black was my go to color. In fact, if you know me well, you will know that when prompted with, “what’s your favorite color?” I will quickly respond with, “black!” The most clever will take it even further and tell me that black is actually the “absence of all color.” Thanks smartypants! Well, then black is my favorite non-color! However, it certainly wasn’t a favorite amongst the stars Sunday night, at the Golden Globes.
We witnessed what appeared to be a whole lot of metallics and deeper shades (but not quite black) this year at the 2009 Golden Globes, which left me partly disappointed at the lack of not only black gowns, but black heels (picture my pouty face as I write this!). The few celebs I did see sporting the ultra sexy ebony shade of perfection seemed to cover up their feet! Renee Zellweger went sheer in black, but alas her dress fishtailed and draped to the floor. Along with Kate Winslet, whose dress was so absolutely stunning, she could have come in barefoot and I would have accepted the fact. However, her gown also covered her feet, leaving my mind to wonder what shoe designer could top that Yves Saint Laurent gown. Susan Sarandon also opted for black (in a velvet pant suit…yes, I cringed too), and while we could see her fabulous black satin heels, the distraction from above took away from their beauty.

That left us with one thought and one thought only. WHERE ARE THE SHOES?! Luckily, although the “black-listed” celebs didn’t leave us with much to choose from in the shoe department, the metallic gals did. Angelina Jolie revealed not only a bit of leg, but also a bit of choo (bless you!). Jimmy Choo that is. Beyonce and her metallic Elie Saab number also featured a thigh high slit, which revealed a stunning pair of diva-like metallic open toed heels.

Truth be told, black will always have a special place in my heart, but I guess there’s a place and a time when one has to venture onto new ground.
This includes the world of metallics. Just for fun, I also decided to include a pair of black AND metallic heels that I would have sported to the Golden Globes, had I been invited. Are you out there Christian Bale? My shoe selection and I are patiently awaiting our 2010 invite.
