March 9, 2009 marks Barbie’s 50th Anniversary and we couldn’t be more excited!

While our favorite doll isn’t looking any older these days, fashionistas, designers and girls-at-heart all over the world are celebrating the milestone.  February’s New York Fashion Week featured a 50 model, 50+ designer fashion show devoted solely to Barbie and her history.  The show included looks from Barbie’s first 1959 appearance (photos below) in the iconic black and white striped swimsuit through the years to looks from today.

They’ve even designed a special edition 50th Anniversary Barbie for the occassion. While I would have put her in pink (in classic Barbie style) this dress is stunning, just like Barbie has been for 50 years.

In honor of Barbie’s anniversary here are some shoes that we feel Barbie would wear, both today and 50 years ago:

As any Barbie owner knows, her feet are made for heels.  (She’s definitely my kind of girl!)  These 4 inch hott pink pumps are just what any Barbie needs.

Guess Carrie, $84.99 at Heels.com

Any Barbie wardrobe also must include a fabulous pair of heels for her beautiful ball gowns.  These coral satin peep-toes with the knot detail is perfect for any special night on the town with Ken.

Chinese Laundry Baldwin, $78.99 from Heels.com

Finally, any Barbie girl needs a pair of shoes for her swimsuit.  These summery sandals feature pink leather with sequins and a bow, could you get more Barbie than that?

Wedding season is approaching.  Which means if you are lucky enough to be the blushing bride, you are on a mad hunt for all sorts of odds and ends to complete the wedding of your dreams.  This includes the perfect shoes, to of course match the already perfect gown.

Maybe your ideal wedding gown hit you right away, maybe it took some time, or maybe you had to create the masterpiece yourself.  Either way, it isn’t complete without the shoes to match.  Luckily, we are here to rescue you from more bridezilla nightmares.  Check out the selections (for each type of bride) from Heels.com that we thought might work as the finishing touches to your wedding day ensemble.

Classic bride - This stunning pair of open-toed Chinese Laundry Willy Heel in ivory.  The satin stilettos add a little shimmer and shine, but leave you with a very clean and classy finish.

Princess bride – It is after all your day.  Why not be fitted like a princess?  Try these Enzo Angiolini Minerva Heels.  Silver satin and a pretty crystal embellishment make you feel like the belle at the ball (or wedding!).

Beach baby bride - Opting for that destination wedding?  Heels are going to get stuck in a sand trap on your way down to the alter.  Opt for a beautiful sandal instead.  Like these Jaci Sandals by Report.  White leather is accented by silver metal decor, leaving you with an islandy feel, but pretty as can be.

Youthful cute bride – Feeling cutesy on your special day?  Bows are certainly a part of the cuter and younger wedding appeal.  The Guess? Kierna Heel is a white leather peep toe that is finished off with a delicate bow.  Leaving you feeling perfect, pure and pretty.

Laidback bride – If you are looking to go less fancy on your wedding day, than chances are you’re going to skip the satin 4 inch heel.  Opt for a ballerina flat.  You can still achieve a pretty look, but with less foot pain and more enjoyment.  This Hollywould Sophia Flat is a white leather flat, with a white ankle strap.  However beware, flats mean more dancing!

Trend setter bride – Who needs the classics?  Dare to be different with a more unusual and unlikely wedding shoe!  Like this Goldy Heel by L.A.M.B.  White patent leather and caged detailing lets out a fierce statement for bride fashionistas everywhere.

When choosing a fictional character to portray via footwear, I automatically took on what I consider the more “exotic” characters of Disney and story telling. I find that I myself am very attracted to all sorts of exotic shoes, therefore making a perfect match! The following choices are options for Pocahontas, Jasmine (from Aladdin), Megara (from Hercules), and Esmeralda (from The Hunchback of Notre Dame). If I were their own personal shopper, they would never pine over the love of a man, but for the love of shoes.

For Pocahontas I’d obviously go the “fringe” route. For what is a Native American princess without her fringe? That said, her bare feet would gladly approve both the Chinese Laundry Scarlett Flat and the Guess Galiena Suede Heel.

For Jasmine I opted for studs and stones. Indian princesses belong adorned in both. Her bare midriff and sea of beautiful fabrics would work perfectly with the Steve by Steve Madden Bianna Sandal and the Sam Edelman Nilla Heel. A princess deserves variety!zssm037_mainzse049_main

For Megara I thought, “lucky lady gets to choose from oodles of gladiator sandals!” Which are VERY in this season. I narrowed down the choices for her though to two pairs I saw fit for a goddess of sorts. Steve Madden’s Croww Gladiator Sandal is ideal for walking amongst much land during the daytime. However if she wanted to jazz things up at night, the Report Barrett Gladiator Wedge will give her some length to the legs and certainly turn heads all through Greece.

Finally, for the gorgeous gypsy amongst the tales, I chose the following for Esmeralda. Gypsys are known for their flare of clothing and accessories, so I wanted to choose shoes that followed along the same line of extravagance. The Charles by Charles David Ecstacy Heel is adorned with sequins and cutouts; ideal for a woman on the go, looking for some evening fun. However, the Report Ellen Sandal is embellished with gold and black stones, which work perfectly with a gypsy queen’s many accents of jewelry.zrep029_mainzccd014_main

After the age of 12, Disney movies might not appeal to you like they used to, but being the divine fashionista as you are, you have to look at them in a whole new light! Picture all these fine and fancy footwear options the next time you sit down to capture the magical world of Disney.
