A recent trip to a turtle farm in Grand Cayman caught my eyes in more way than one. Obviously the island is a beautiful place, and the work they’ve done to breed different sea turtle species is even more beautiful. However, being the fashionista that I always am, I was also stunned by the beauty of their shells. Turtle and tortoise shells have been making their way through the fashion industry for years. However, they sometimes get forgotten, because their leopard, cheetah and zebra print colleagues get all the attention.
We all know about tortoise shell glasses frames, but what do we really know about tortoise shell shoes?! Well, after my recent visit, I decided to come back and search for a few very pretty and very totally turtley pairs of shoes.
This Fantasy Heel by J. Renee is the shell in perfection. A square open toe and a black detailing finish off the already sleek and lovely tortoise shell pattern.
The Dita Wedge by oh…Deer is another optimal choice in tortoise shell. I fell in love with the unique cut out design and the simple and sassy wedge.
If you feel that all over tortoise shell is just a tad too drastic for your style, maybe try these Jessica Simpson Helga Slingbacks. They feature a platform of tortoise shell below a patent leather black upper. Just like a turtle to hide!
